Wisconsin NatureMapping Milkweed Community Study
Developed by: Niki Anderson, Memorial High School (Eau Claire)

A milkweed community is a complex community teaming with life. Such communities, which are easily found throughout Wisconsin, can serve as model ecological communities that are useful in teaching students about many biological disciplines such ecology, conservation biology, genetics, and evolutionary biology. By observing a milkweed community students can easily learn basic ecological principles and can easily discover the direct and indirect affects that their actions can have on the environment. In addition, observations of a milkweed community can provide students with an opportunity to collect field data and design ecological field studies.
