Guidelines for recording and submitting your sightings.Benefits of being a trained NatureMapper

Both trained and untrained NatureMappers can report their observations. Trained NatureMappers have the following additional benefits:

  • Training and assistance with identification of species.
  • Inside knowledge of special projects currently in process.
  • Access to the data and maps to view statewide sightings.
  • Access to the data and maps that allow them to monitor their personal sightings.
  • Free subscription to the Wisconsin NatureMapping newsletter.
  • Free subscription to the Wisconsin NatureMapping Google Group, which provides the latest updates, web fixes, and happenings in WI NatureMapping.

After you become a registered NatureMapper, you will be invited to become part of the WI NatureMapping Google Group. This group serves the same function as a listserv. It is used to communicate with WI NatureMappers about important issues such as updates to the WI NatureMapping website, recent newsletters, and upcoming NatureMapping events, projects, and volunteer opportunities. This group is meant to serve as the primary means of communication between the Citizen Science Director in charge of WI NatureMapping and NatureMappers throughout the state and serves to replace the traditional email updates you currently receive from the Director. As a subscriber to the group, you will receive updates and newsletters and may post questions to the entire list that you have about NatureMapping. The group is intended only for registered NatureMappers and not for general public use.

For information about training opportunities, please click on the Training/Workshops tab.
